Special Education
Germantown Elementary School is dedicated to providing inclusive and comprehensive education for all students, including those who may benefit from special education services. Our district offers specialized programming for children ages 3 and up. If you believe your child may benefit from special education services, please submit a request for an evaluation to the district’s Special Education Coordinator, Kristine Beer, at kbeer@ges60.org or call 618-523-4253. Within 14 school days of receiving the request, our dedicated team will determine if an evaluation is warranted. This process ensures a timely and thorough assessment, allowing us to provide tailored support to meet each child's unique needs. We are committed to fostering an environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Students with disabilities who do not qualify for an individualized education program, as required by the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and implementing provisions of the School Code, may qualify for services under Section 504 of the federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973 if the child (i) has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, (ii) has a record of a physical or mental impairment, or (iii) is regarded as having a physical or mental impairment.
Physical Restraint, Time Out, Isolated Time Out Reduction Plan
In accordance with the requirements set forth in 105 ILCS 5/2-3.130 and Public Act 102-0339, each school district board must create an oversight team that consists of, but is not limited to, teachers, paraprofessionals, school service personnel, and administrators to develop district-specific plans that include procedures to reduce and eventually eliminate the use of physical restraint, time out, and isolated time out (RTO).
