Negotiation is an important life skill....one we want our kids to be able to do successfully. Sometimes, however, we tend to over-negotiate, leaving our kids with more than just choices, but too much control.
There are some things we can do as parents with kids at any ages, to give them choices, but provide them the boundaries and consistency that all kids need.
Take time - think before responding: Our brains are busy. We are constantly shifting gears, figuring things out, problem solving, and planning. Sometimes we are quick to say no, which may lead to an argument......over something we really don’t care strongly about. They just asked at the wrong time. We need to take a few minutes and consider the request, truly thinking about what a reasonable response is.
Follow through. If you tell him you’ll let him know at supper, have an answer at supper. Hold true to your word. We want them to do the same.
Know why you’re saying no. If it’s just because “we’re the adults and we’re in charge,” there may be a better answer - one that’s heard more clearly. Kids do not have to agree with our reasoning, but there should be a logical reason for our answer.
Help them understand that “no” still really does mean “no.” Once we’ve considered it, told them why, and have committed to an answer, don’t give in. This just gives the message for next time to keep arguing and they may get what they want.
Consistency is key in building trust and guiding children toward healthy decision-making skills.

Our Lady Bulldog Cross Country Team made a BIG IMPACT at today's Clinton County Cross Country Championship with a 2nd Place finish out of 10 teams.

Today we celebrate our Top 10 finishers in the Clinton County Cross Country Championship. Congratulations to Kenzie P. for earning 8th place and Kyler R. for his 4th place finish.

We are excited to announce that for the third year in a row, GES #60 has earned the highest summative designation of EXEMPLARY from the Illinois State Board of Education.

It's Meet Day. Our Bulldog Cross Country Team will compete in the Clinton County Championship at Damiansville Park after school today. The varsity girls' race will start at 4:30 followed by the varsity boys' at 5:00.
Our 8th grade runners and their parents will be recognized after both races.

It is hard to believe that it has already been over a week since we rocked out with five incredible bands at Schoendienst Park.
We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our sponsors, volunteers, and attendees whose support made this event possible. The Rockfest would not have been such a success without their generosity and enthusiasm.
We are thrilled to announce that we have surpassed one-third of our fundraising goal. The success of the Rockfest positions us to begin the second phase of our fundraising efforts, applying for matching grants through corporations and foundations. In the coming months, a dedicated team will allocate their time and energy to grants, ensuring that we target the right opportunities and effectively share our mission. Our efforts to close the funding gap and reach our ultimate objective, a new gym, will continue to gain momentum as we seek out additional partnerships to make this vision a reality.
