On this eleventh day of November, we spotlight Hillary Kurtz. Mrs. Kurtz joined our Bulldog #FAMILY in 2018. This is her fourth year at GES. During her time at GES, Mrs. Kurtz has taught kindergarten and first grade. This year, she is teaching first grade. While Mrs. Kurtz’s primary responsibility is teaching first grade, she also volunteers her time on the district’s CARE Team and helps with the Homework Help Program. Besides being an important part of our Bulldog team, Mrs. Kurtz is a mom, daughter, sister, sports fan, and animal lover, who loves the outdoors and boating life. On this tenth day of November, we spotlight Chad Rakers. Mr. Rakers joined our Bulldog #FAMILY in 2002. This is his 20th year at GES. He started as a fifth grade teacher and then transitioned into the junior high science position. While Mr. Rakers primarily teaches 5th-8th grade science, he also works with the second grade students through our RtI Program. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Mr. Rakers volunteers his time on the district’s CARE Team and coaches the Scholar Bulldogs. Besides being an important part of our Bulldog team, Mr. Rakers is a coach, uncle, sports junkie, gym rat, movie buff, actor, decent cook, and loves to laugh. On this ninth day of November, we spotlight Angie Garren. Mrs. Garren joined our Bulldog #FAMILY in 2010. She worked as a paraprofessional primarily in the PreK classroom for numerous years before going back to school to get her teaching degree. In 2019, she was hired as our K-4 special education teacher. This is her third school year in this role. While Mrs. Garren’s main responsibility is leading our K-4 resource classroom, she also volunteers her time on the district’s FISH Committee and CARE Team. She is a creative thinker who loves to personalize learning and make it fun for the students. Besides being an important part of our Bulldog team, Mrs. Garren is a wife, mom, artist, lover of books, deep thinker, word nerd, and user of imagination. On this eighth day of November, we spotlight Carl Diesen. Mr. Diesen joined our Bulldog #FAMILY in 1991. This is his 31st year at GES. Mr. Diesen does it all at GES. He is the first person at school every day preparing for the arrival of students, and he can oftentimes be found working at night and on the weekends taking care of issues that arise. Besides being responsible for the daily maintenance and operations of the building, Mr. Diesen has taken on the added responsibility of bus driver. He chose to get licensed to drive bus because he knew the school district was in a bind given the bus driver shortage. He currently drives a minimum of 3 bus routes a day. It is impossible to list all of the things Mr. Diesen does for our school, and it is ALWAYS done with a smile on his face! Besides being an important part of our Bulldog team, Mr. Diesen is a dad, fireman, traveler, and BBQ master. Thank you, Mr. Diesen, for being a difference maker at GES.

On this seventh day of November, we spotlight Trisha Weekley. Mrs. Weekley joined our Bulldog #FAMILY in 2015. This is her 7th year at GES. While Mrs. Weekley serves primarily as our 8th grade math teacher and leader of the junior high math department, she also assumes many additional responsibilities as an assistant principal. Mrs. Weekley leads the district’s New Teacher Mentor Program, the FISH Committee, and the Student of the Month Program. She assists with student discipline, faculty and staff evaluations, and the supervision of extra-curricular activities. Mrs. Weekley wears many hats at GES, too many to list. Besides being an important part of our Bulldog team, Mrs. Weekley is a mom, wife, lover of lake life, family woman, and Christian. Thank you, Mrs. Weekley, for being a difference maker at GES.

On this sixth day of November, we spotlight Anita Schomaker. Mrs. Schomaker joined our Bulldog #FAMILY in 2015. This is her 7th year at GES. Mrs. Schomaker is our head cook. She took the lead role on getting a salad bar, started the share table, and implemented the Offer vs. Serve Program. Under her leadership, our lunch program has flourished. Besides being an important part of our Bulldog team, Mrs. Schomaker is a boy mom, girl mom, wife, family person, and SXS rider who loves to laugh and spend time with friends. If today wasn't already special enough with the Veterans Day Program this morning, we added to the excitement with a surprise visit from Danny this afternoon. He updated us on his fight against Leukemia. He is in remission and continues with chemo treatments 5 days a week. While Danny is not yet able to return to in person learning, we look forward to the day he can. Bulldog Country stands strong with Danny.

We are desperately looking to add to our bus driving team. An Illinois driver’s license with a Class “S” endorsement is required. Must be available to drive at various times throughout the day. Starting pay is $17 an hour for daily bus routes and $12.50 an hour for extra-curricular bus runs with a $1.00 pay increase scheduled to go into effect on January 1, 2022. Congratulations to our October Reader of the Month, Ellie B. Ellie has read nine books so far this year, and she continually challenges herself with book choice. She works hard to improve her reading each day. Congratulations to our October Writer of the Month, Addi W. Addi works hard everyday to improve her writing skills, and this reflects in her work. Both students are positive examples for others to follow. Bulldog Country stands proud of Ellie and Addi.

On this fourth day of November, we spotlight Mrs. Finan. Mrs. Finan joined our Bulldog #FAMILY in 1999. This is her 23rd year at GES. While Mrs. Finan serves primarily as our building secretary, she also works as a cashier for our lunch program, and she is our resident nurse. Mrs. Finan wears countless hats at GES. She plays a major role in helping our school days run smoothly. Besides being an important part of our Bulldog team, Mrs. Finan is a mom, grandma, sister, wife, and cat lover. On this third day of November, we spotlight Leslie Eversgerd. Mrs. Eversgerd joined our Bulldog #FAMILY in 2005. This is her 17th year at GES. While Mrs. Eversgerd is primarily our 5-6 ELA teacher, she also works with K-4 students through our RtI Program. She has assumed a lead role in facilitating our Bulldog Buddy Program, and she is a volunteer member on the district’s CARE Team. This year, Mrs. Eversgerd has taken on a leadership role in the junior high. In this role, she serves as the ‘go to’ person for the junior high teachers. She coordinates schedules, communicates important information, facilitates discussions, etc. on behalf of the junior high. Besides being an important part of our Bulldog team, Mrs. Eversgerd is a mom, sports fan, lover of lake life, workout queen, competitor, outdoor adventurer, and runner. On this second day of November, we spotlight Kris Shubert. Mrs. Shubert joined our Bulldog #FAMILY in 2002. This is her 20th year at GES. Mrs. Shubert is our K-8 PE teacher and junior high health teacher. She has assumed a lead role in facilitating our Bulldog Buddy Program, and she has helped to raise thousands of dollars over the years through the Jump Rope for Heart Campaign. Mrs. Shubert does a lot of work behind the scenes to help Mrs. Henrichs prepare for the annual Christmas and Spring Concerts. Besides being an important part of our Bulldog team, Mrs. Shubert is a mom, gardener, cooker, sports lover, coffee drinker, and stronger than before. We have lots to be thankful for in Bulldog Country. As we make our way through the month of November, we will be spotlighting one GES staffer every day. Our faculty and staff goes above and beyond to meet the needs of the community children. They deserve to know how much they are appreciated. We are blessed with the best at GES. On this first day of November, we spotlight Peggy Karlovsky. Mrs. Karlovsky joined our Bulldog #FAMILY in 2020. This is her second year at GES. Mrs. Karlovsky works as a special education paraprofessional. This year, she works primarily in the PreK classroom. She also volunteers her time on the district’s FISH Committee. This committee facilitates activities that serve to promote positivity throughout the school. Mrs. Karlovsky has shown a willingness to take on new challenges with a ‘can do’ attitude. Our students benefit greatly from her patience and positivity. Besides being an important part of our Bulldog team, Mrs. Karlovsky is a grandma, girl mom reader, animal lover, and sports fan.
