Our second grade classes received Valentines from across the country, spanning Montana to Pennsylvania and many states in between. The students had so much fun learning about different places and cultures. Thank you to everyone who helped make this learning experience possible.

The Class of 1997 generously donated $630 to The Final Push in loving memory of Scott Albers and Travis Beckmann. Your tribute honors their legacy and helps us get closer to our goal of a new gymnasium for Germantown Elementary. Thank you for your support.

If you feel like you repeat yourself 236 times, and then still have to yell or threaten for your kids to listen, you are not alone.
Try looking at this from a child’s perspective. In the hustle and bustle of the day, how often is “Mom, watch this,” or “Dad, can you help with.........” met with an “in a minute,” “hold on,” or a nod while we continue what we’re doing. Even with the best intentions, our message may be clear to our kids.........what I’m doing is more important than what you are saying.
While modeling the behavior we expect from our kids is the most important thing we can do, another parenting hack to reduce the amount of times you have to repeat yourself is writing notes. Written notes slow things down. They don’t compete with screens, noise, or big feelings. The notes are there when their brains are ready. Here are some examples to put on a sticky note, tape to the door, on the mirror, or whatever location makes sense.
Bedtime - pajamas, brush teeth, book, bed
Don’t forget: backpack, lunchbox, instrument, basketball bag
After school: backpack away, snack, homework, play
Write the note before the frustration sets in. Point to the note. Ask, “What’s the first thing on your note?” Walk away. If he starts a snack before the backpack is put away, pause, remind him to check the note, and make sure step 1 is complete before a snack.
Less nagging. More follow through. More peace.
