After much discussion and watching the latest forecast, we have decided that for the safety of our students and staff, tomorrow will be an E-Learning Day. While getting our students and staff to school may not be an issue, getting them home could be. We want to ensure that everyone stays safe and avoids any potential dangerous situations due to changing weather conditions. The students should have brought everything they need for E-Learning home with them today. The teachers will push out information to families by 8:30 tomorrow morning and will be available to answer questions throughout the day.
We appreciate you understanding that safety is our top priority. We would rather be safe than sorry.

Dear Bulldogs,
As you lace up your shoes and step onto the court at Rend Lake College for the Class S SIJHSAA State Basketball Tournament, let the spirit of Bulldog IMPACT guide you.
Be INSPIRED by the journey that has brought you here—every practice, every game, and every moment of hard work has led to this opportunity. Play with passion and belief in yourselves.
Stay MINDFUL of the game in front of you. Focus on each possession, each pass, and each shot. Trust the preparation that has made you ready for this moment.
Be PATIENT—great plays develop through teamwork, strategy, and resilience. When faced with adversity, take a deep breath and push forward with determination.
Remain ACCEPTING of every challenge and every call. No matter what happens, respond with grace and a commitment to giving your very best.
Play with CONFIDENCE—you have earned this. Trust your skills, your teammates, and your ability to rise to the occasion. Walk onto that court knowing you are ready.
And most importantly, be TRUSTWORTHY teammates. Lift each other up, communicate, and have each other’s backs—because together, you are unstoppable.
But always remember—basketball is more than just a game. It’s about the lessons learned, the friendships built, and the memories made along the way. No matter the outcome, you are already champions in the eyes of your Bulldog Family.
So go out there, play with heart, and show them what it means to make an IMPACT!
Sincerely,
Your Bulldog Family 🐾❤️🖤🏀

Last week, I shared some ways to build empathy with our children (and ourselves). Active listening and perspective taking (seeing a situation from another’s eyes) are great places to start.
Another way to build this skill is by openly discussing similarities and differences. We had a conversation at my house just this week about morning routines in different households. When one child made a comment about how we should skip Mindful Morning, get straight to work, and get out of school earlier, I was less than thrilled. I could have reacted immediately. We’ve committed a lot of time, heart, and energy to our GES students starting the school days with mindfulness and connection because we believe it’s what we need. Instead of yelling at her, telling her she doesn’t make the decisions, she’s not in charge, she’s being disrespectful, or the many other initial thoughts I had, we paused to think and talk.
“What do our mornings look like at home usually? What do you do at Mindful Morning time? Why is it good for kids? Not why do you like it, but why is it helpful?“
Our kids only know what they’ve experienced. They are kids. Unless they are living it, they do not understand that there is a big world outside their door, even in Germantown, with many different circumstances that make life different for other people.
“Did you know that some kids are getting themselves ready and out the door in the morning? Some parents have to be at work and don’t get to be home with their kids. You know how sometimes when we all sleep in just a little bit and then we’re rushing. That often leads to chaos, yelling, and tears. How does that affect your day at school? How does that affect your brain, body, and heart? Some kids start every day like that.”
Because of this conversation, we were able to turn a seemingly snarky remark into a learning experience that helped build empathy and understanding for others.
